RIGI! Queen of the Mountains, Switzerland

RIGI, Mount Rigi, Queen of the mountains in Switzerland – nothing less! Rigi Kulm is the highest point, just 1.798 meters above sea level, but it has a 360° panorama view to lots of lakes and an endless number of other mountain peaks, even in the Black Forest in Germany and the Vosges in France! We visited Rigi in the spring when there was still some snow left, but with beautiful sunshine. The cogwheel train from Vitznau just goes slowly up and up and up (departure from Arth-Goldau is also possible). By the way, the Rigi mountain railway is the oldest in Europe, and the second in the world with the Riggenbach cogwheel principle, opened in May 1871. Some of the original carriages are still operating. On the way to the summit, the train passes villages, restaurants and wellness hotels, but this day we were determined to visit the Kulm. Numerous panorama hiking trails are available here. Bring a blanket and join the families and friends gathering at the top to enjoy a picnic with one of the best views possible. If the weather is less good there is also a restaurant available with a huge panorama terrace. Rigi, it really is the Queen of the mountains.
