Fronalpstock – hiking with the most fabulous lake views

Loading

Wow, we just figured out, we never told you about this place, that is a mistake, sorry! Nowadays, the world’s steepest funicular railway is running from the Muota Valley, about 2 kilometers from Schwyz, to Stoos in about 4 minutes. The track has a gradient of 47.7°! Because of the construction, we didn’t really feel it as steep but have a look at some of the pictures, it really is! In railway language, the 47.7° is equivalent to 110 %. Until December 2017, the Gelmer funicular was the steepest with its 106 % ) . But at least there we felt the steep environment. Arriving at Stoos, we walked to the beautiful little wooden chapel where we heard the alphorns played. From there we went by 2 cable car sections to Fronalpstock, 1.922 meters high. The view from Fronalpstock….well, have a look at the pictures. The view includes ten lakes and many, many mountain summits. The mountain restaurant also named Fronalpstock, has a huge terrasse, of course also with fabulous views. The area is a paradise for mountain hikers, and while walking along the ridge we met numerous alp cows, grazing in the fresh alpine environment. This ensures the production of the extremely tasty alp cheese. Well actually for hikers, there is even an Alpine Cheese Trail. Anyway, it has now been a while since our last visit here, so we will start planning a new one and will keep you informed.
