PILATUS

Loading

PILATUS, a mountain peaking 2132 meters above sea level, set at the Lake Lucerne, is best reached from Alpnachstad by the steepest cogwheel railway in the world. And steep it is, at some stages up to 48 %!! The trip takes just about 30 minutes, slow enough to enjoy the fabulous views of the lake and surrounding mountains. And of course the atmosphere of the old train waggons. Interesting information; the original rack rails have now been in use for more than 100 years 🙂
There are many interesting hiking trails from the summit. Because of low visibility during our visit, we just enjoyed our lunch with a nice cold beer at the more than 125 years old Restaurant Pilatus-Kulm. On a clear, sunny day the 360 ° view is outstanding. If time is not an issue, take the complete “Golden round trip” from Lucerne. This is still on our bucket list.
