TSCHUGGEN GRAND HOTEL

TSCHUGGEN Grand Hotel! Yes, is sounds impressive, and it didn’t get less impressive when we arrived. Of course expectations are relatively high when knowing we are going to stay on a 5-star superior classified hotel, member of the Leading Hotels of the World. This is not an issue here; reception, concierge, management, shuttle service, restaurants, spa, room….TOP, TOP, TOP – from arrival to departure.
OK, the weather could have been better
🙂. On the other side, we are not skiing, so we didn’t need to get outside but could relax and enjoy the huge Bergoase spa and wellness area. 5000 m2 of total luxury and comfort on 4 floors. The design, by Mario Botta, and materials are just unbelievable and beautiful! It has been built completely into the mountain so all you see from outside is the “light sails”, designed to channel daylight to the spa. No wonder this is the main icon used for advertising the Tschuggen Grand Hotel.
We just tried three of the restaurants; here we need to mention the one-Michelin-star awarded La Vetta. Outstanding gourmet dining experience – and for a (for Switzerland) actually very fair price, when considering taste, quality and appearance. This evening the menu consisted of, for example, warm smoked Appenzeller duck breast, ranch lamb from Bern and semi-wild guinea fowl with summer truffle.
Extremely delicate and well worth every Rappen
🙂.
Other important facilities to mention are the Cigar Lounge and the Tschuggen Express. Yes, the hotel has its own private mountain railway, for guests only. It brings you directly to the skiing and hiking areas in just 2 minutes with an inclination of up to 52 %! Ever seen this by any other hotel??!! They sure go this extra mile to differentiate from other good hotels. Next year a renewed track, with level adjustment cabins, so you don’t need to buckle up, is planned to be built by the famous Austrian company Steurer.
On Sunday we wanted to go to the Weisshorn mountain by cable car. Without any delay, the concierge arranged a shuttle car to take us to the station, and picked us up again when returning. Perfect! So you don’t need your own car during a visit in Arosa when staying at this hotel. At departure our luggage was picked up from our room, placed in our car, the car parked just outside the entrance with the nightover-fallen snow removed…
We could drive home with another great weekend experience accomplished from our bucket list. Thank you Tschuggen, from house-keeping to top-management, for showing how things can be done.
