Hiking to Seealpsee – Switzerland

Loading

HIKING to and around SEEALPSEE, and back, from Wasserauen is just about 7,5 kilometres but relatively steep. Partially up to 18 – 20 % ascend/descend, but also some flat parts (around the lake for example). During weekends the road to the lake is fairly crowded, so if possible we strongly suggest doing the hike early in the morning on workdays. After arriving at the lake, we continued around the lake, meeting lots of grazing cows all over. It is possible to swim in the lake, perhaps catch a fish, rent a rowboat, or just sit down on a picnic or use one of the fireplaces to prepare your own lunch.
Around the lake, set in a beautiful landscape of mountains, including Säntis, there are only a few smaller farmhouses, a couple of restaurants, the Bruder Klausen chapel and THEN one of the best little family-driven alp cheese dairies, the Seealpchäs, we have ever visited. They also make a fabulous Alp butter. During our last visit, two years ago, we had a delicious lunch at the restaurant, also named Seealpsee, before preparing for the descent.
The lake is located at 1.143 m.a.s.l. in the Alpstein area in Switzerland. We had parked our camper in the big parking lot in Wasserauen, where there are also public toilets. For 24 hours, the price of parking is just 5 Swiss Francs. We stayed here for 3 days so we could visit more of the beautiful places in the Ebenalp area.
