Visiting Rothenburg ob der Tauber, AND Überlingen am Bodensee.

Loading

On our way back from a Christmas trip to Denmark, we made some stopovers in Germany, mainly in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria and in Überlingen at Lake Constance (Bodensee). It was our second visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and probably not our last. The medieval old town is so beautiful, full of narrow alleys, half-timbered houses and surrounded by a town wall (only two other German towns have a complete and intact town wall). Most of the wall, with its covered ramparts walkways, and towers, is part of a walking tour around the town. So, it is simply to enjoy the views, visit the marketplace in front of the city hall, admire the very well restored and maintained buildings. From the little castle park outside the walls, there is a great view over the valley to the river Tauber. During our visit, we conveniently stayed at the huge motorhome place, just 200 meters from the town wall. Then we went to Überlingen at the northern shore of Lake Constance. Überlingen is also a medieval city, full of half-timbered houses, a city wall with towers, and a huge cathedral, St. Nikolaus Münster. Most of all, since the town hall was closed, the really interesting part of Überlingen is the very long lakeside promenade with its Mediterranean atmosphere and the wonderful parks. From the shore, many tour boats connect to other interesting places along Lake Constance including the Mainau island. By Überlingen we also stayed at the motorhome place within walking distance (steep down and up) from the old town and the lake. From a small hilltop by the parking place, there is a great view over Lake Constance and even to the Swiss Alps.

We hope you are all ok and wish you a fabulous 2022 full of experiences, be it far away or close to where you live. Happy New Year wishes from Chris, Lene, and Maggie.
